On our willow Hurdles and Garden Screening course you will be shown how to stake up and weave a willow hurdle up to 6ft in length. The techniques taught can then be used and adapted to suit your own requirements. Step by step instructions are given and crib sheets are available.

Projects which can be undertaken with these techniques include; oil tank screening, raised beds and borders for flowers and vegetables and green compost bins. For the more ambitious, insitu fencing for larger fencing projects can also be explored.

Attendees are welcome to take their hurdles home with them, but please remember these are large and appropriate transportation will be needed! There will also be an opportunity to purchase our willow, specialist tools and weaving books.

Our full day willow hurdles courses are £80. The price includes expert tuition and all the materials and equipment required to make a willow hurdle. Lunch and refreshments are also provided. Attendees will learn how to make something beautiful, strong, environmentally-friendly and very useful. If you would like to take your hurdle with you, please bear in mind these are large and appropriate transportation will be required!

As well as taking home your own willow creation, there will also be an opportunity to see how willow is grown and processed on our Somerset farm. Willow weaving is probably one of Somerset’s oldest crafts. Visitors are welcome to walk through our withy fields and enjoy the amazing variety of wildlife that the Somerset Levels has to offer.
